Coach Bernie Vallier is in his 11th year of baseball at Kalamazoo Valley Community College. His previous coaching stint at KVCC was from 1984-1989. A lifelong Kalamazoo area resident, Coach Vallier has previously coached baseball at Comstock High School 1971-1978, winning 3 championships in 4 years as a varsity coach. He began his college coaching career at Dodge City Community College in 1978 leading his team to qualify for the regional tournament in his first year. He coached at Nazareth College 1979-1982 and began the baseball program at the college before coming to KVCC. Bernie is married to Bev and has 3 children and 4 grandchildren. Coach Vallier retired from the Kalamazoo County Juvenile Home in 2003 after serving as the Assistant Superintendent for 13 years. His wealth of knowledge of working with young athletes and young people provides a good balance for a sound KVCC baseball program. His squads have won 116 games in the previous 4 years since he took over the helm again.
Assistant Coach Gary Goodwin is in his 1st year with Kalamazoo Valley Community College as a coach. Coach Goodwin was a pitcher/designated hitter for Coach Vallier at KVCC in 85-86 seasons. From there, coach Goodwin played at Grand Valley State University as a relief pitcher. He followed that up by transferring to Southern Arkansas University to also become the closer for the Muleriders. Coach Goodwin brings knowledge of the game at all levels and primarily will be responsible for developing infield and infield play and the outfield. He is a graduate of Paw Paw High School and a lifelong resident of southwest Michigan. His addition to the staff makes for solid player development. Coach Goodwin resides in Paw Paw and has a lengthy history of involvement in the community in athletics, primarily in baseball.
Joining KVCC as Assistant Volunteer Coach this season, is Jeff Grant. Coach Grant is from Peru, Indiana and played for the Cougars in 2007. He finished 12th in pitching saves last year and is an Education major with a career goal of Teaching and Coaching. Jeff is a great addition to the program this year. |
