The
academic beat goes on as well!
Excellence on the basketball floor - and in the classroom. The
2006-07 Kalamazoo Valley women's basketball team carried the tradition forward with an
another outstanding performance in the
classroom. The Western Conference Co-champs won their way to the
Regional final before succumbing to the Edison Chargers in the Regional
championship game.
Their disappointed,
yet proud coach, Ron Welch
commented, "This group has been a lot of fun to coach. Their
understanding of what's important and their competitiveness was impressive.
Even though we fell a few points shy of our goal of returning to Phoenix, I
think they will be able to look back and recognize how fortunate they were to be
involved with the group of people on this team. Truly a group with
character.
The coaching staff is very proud of them and what they have done in both arenas.
It was an honor to coach them."
The Lady Cougar's team GPA for the year was an
outstanding 3.237 - over a 3.0 for the fifth year out of the last six and had
more players make Academic All State and Academic All Conference than any team
in the state. They were led by sophomore
Academic All American candidates Charity Knight and Amber Peters.
12 out of 15 roster players registered 3.0+ GPA's.
A complete listing of honors for the sophomores can be found on the
Strong Academic
Tradition link on the women's basketball main page.
