Home court good to the Cougars! |
January 20, 2007 KVCC (78) vs. Lansing C. C.(56) in Kalamazoo at
Cougar Arena
Fine defense and patience on
offense - a winning formula as the Lady Cougars get a conference win in Cougar
Arena Saturday afternoon. "Our keys before the game were to contain
Wallace and Leek, run when we could, and be patient when the break wasn't there"
explained
Coach Welch. "We have a tremendous amount of respect for Nicole
Wallace and the rest of the Stars, but I felt like we did a pretty good job on
her today - spearheaded by the defensive efforts of Kendra Kutz and her
teammates Charity Knight, Sam Karasiewicz and Shannon Dumond (all spent time
trying to guard the super quick guard). We also executed our offensive
game plan well, being opportunistic when we could and running a patient zone
offense by keeping the ball moving when we couldn't run." The loss
dropped the visiting Stars to 3 - 3 in the league and improved the Cougars to
5-1 in conference play to remain
tied for first with Muskegon.

League play continues on
Wednesday as the
Cougars travel down to Indiana to take on the Ancilla Chargers. Game time
in the new facility in Plymouth, Indiana is 1:00 pm - and yes, they are on the
same time we are. "Motivation certainly won't be a problem"
Commented the Cougar coach. "This sophomore group still has the taste of
Ancilla's upset win down there last year. I'm pretty sure we'll be ready
to play."
