Cougars sneak out of Indiana with a win. |
January 24, 2007 KVCC (62) vs. Ancilla College (52) in
Plymouth, IN at
Lifeplex Arena
It's a good thing that defense
is a constant for the Cougars, particularly when the offense is sputtering. "I
don't know what it is - I suspect that Coach Liverance's gals had something to
do with it - but we always seem to struggle down here."
said a perplexed
Coach Welch. "I have a tremendous amount of respect for the effort
Dave's kids ALWAYS expend. Tonight they gave us a lesson in heart and
execution of a half court offense. I thought for several long stretches in
the game they out played us. I think we're extremely fortunate to get out
of town with a win. It could have easily gone the other way." The
win, on the road, in the league, improved the Cougars to
6-1 in conference play and take over sole possession of first place in the
Western Conference by virtue of Lansing's 68-57 win over Muskegon.

Kendra Kutz had 10 first half points and Jealyn
Foston continued her excellent play, getting all 13 of her points after the
intermission to lead the Cougars. Kutz ended the night with 12. The
Free throw line was the deciding factor in a game in which neither team shot the
ball well from the field. The Valley team was 14 for 18 from the charity
stripe and Ancilla could muster only a 7 for 18 effort on their new home floor
at Lifeplex.

League play continues on Saturday as the
Lady Cougars travel down US 131 to take on the Lady Vikings of Glen Oaks CC. Game time
in Centreville is 1:00 pm. "This is an important contest for us," commented the Cougar coach. "We
have to get back to playing well. This game starts the second half of
league play and we're in control of our own destiny if we continue to take care
of business. I feel pretty confident we'll get back to playing KVCC
basketball."
