November 25, 2006 KVCC (82) vs. Owens C. C.(58) at Owens CC in
Toledo, OH
A traditionally tough Owens CC team proved
to be no problem as the Lady Cougars played their best game of the young season.
Firing on all cylinders and harassing the Lady Express all over the floor, the
KVCC team built a 42-29 halftime lead and never looked back. The cold shooting
of the previous day was no where in sight and the defense fueled the offense. "I was
pleasantly surprised with our offensive production against a quality team like
Owens." Stated Cougar coach, Ron Welch. " We put them thru a pretty good
shooting workout this morning and I think it paid dividends tonight."
"That quality depth was very apparent
today." said Welch. "Everyone stepped up and played well - it was very
refreshing after yesterday's experience."
Starter Charity Knight led the Cougars with
13 points and again one of the bench players went off for double figures as
Jacquel Rogers added 12 points. Point Guard Amber Peters chipped in with
10 points, 8 assists and only one turnover. Kim Gear led the ladies with 9
rebounds and Kendra Kutz had 6 as the Cougars again won the battle of the
boards.
The Cougars were money from the line
again scoring 21 points from the charity stripe and continued the trend of
making more free throws than their opponents shoot. Owens was 4 of 7 from
the line. "Our bench was 12 of 14, with Jessica Rando going 4/4 and Shannon
Dumond 5/6. Veteran Amy Millard was 3/4. It's nice to see the gals taking
advantage of their opportunities," Said an impressed Welch. "Everybody
played hard. I thought Jealyn Foston gave a real good effort and she wasn't
alone. If we establish this as our consistent effort, we'll be just fine.
It's amazing how we seem to have a different gal step up every night.
Quite a luxury!"
The Lady Cougars are now 6-0 on
the season.
