Kalamazoo Valley Women's Basketball |
November 25, 2007 KVCC (73) vs.
Owens C. C.(80) at
Kalamazoo, MI
Coach's comments:
"Two halves," said
a disappointed Coach Welch. "We need to play two solid halves, then we
will be showing progress. There is a certain level of understanding because we
competed at a high level for a lot of this game against a very good Owens team. Again,
we had signs of the level of consistency that we need and then we turn
around and shoot ourselves in the foot. We need more from every single player.
It's probably too early to expect them to all of a sudden "get it". Right now
we're playing just well enough to be competitive and that's frustrating for
everyone."
"We got a good defensive effort in the first half
(the Cougars led 37-32 at the half), but couldn't sustain it." Explained Welch. "Then
we give up 48 points in the second mostly because we didn't rebound with them.
We'll take a look at the tape. I think the effort was there, but sometimes it's
unproductive hustle. Plus, our offense has to take care of the basketball
better."

Dumond "D's" up
Closson looks for the next pass
Sophomore Shannon Dumond again led the young Cougar
team with 19 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Jeannie Closson and Ja'nee
Morton were close behind with 15 and 12 points respectively. "Shannon's playing
at a pretty high level right now."
Stated the Cougar coach. "She's playing an unfamiliar position (point
guard) and doing a nice job. We need to get her some help."
Next up for the Cougars is a trip to Livonia for the
Schoolcraft College Invitational Classic. They will take on another two
traditional powers from Ohio in Lakeland CC (Cleveland area) and Sinclair CC
(Dayton) on consecutive days. The schedule for can be found on the Schedule Page of the KVCC women's basketball
