Coach's comments:
"Play defense - rebound - take care of the
basketball. Pretty solid formula for success." Coach Welch commented. "We
played with composure and confidence at both ends of the floor tonight and the
results were pretty impressive. I was apprehensive coming into this game -
I think Jackson's pretty good. I think we caught them on a rare bad
shooting night, but I would like to believe that our defensive effort had
something to do with that"
Freshman Jasmaine Ruffin - scores in previous game
Jasmaine Ruffin led the Cougars with a 15 point, seven
rebound performance off the bench - highs in both categories for the game.
The Cougar bench was huge in this game contributing 34 points and some very nice
defense to the cause. "JR was pretty special tonight," praised Coach
Welch. "It's hard for me to find a lot of fault with her effort. I
think she might have missed one defensive rotation and she gave us a huge lift."
Also in double figures for the l;ocal ladies was Shannon Dumond with 12 and
Ja'nee Morton with 11. "Ja'nee was very efficient at the offensive end in
short minutes." explained Welch. "She spent a lot of time on the bench in
the first half with two fouls and we need to get that figured out for her to be
the player she wants to be. It'll happen."
