February 22, 2008 KVCC (70) vs.
Glen Oaks (54) in Centreville, MI
Coach's comments:
"Sloppy." Commented KVCC Coach Ron Welch. "But, it's a win on
the road in conference play and we'll take it."
In a game that didn't have a great deal of
meaning for either club, the level of play got a little shoddy at times, but the
Lady Cougars, who had sown up third place in the Western Conference before the
beginning of the week were the first team to really pull it together and
finished the game going away for their 16th win of the year.
With starting guard Ericka King limited because
of a "tweaked" ankle, someone had to step up. Enter Jenison freshman
Alicia Jesnek. All she did was lead the Cougars in scoring with 16 points
on 5 of 7 shooting (3 of 5 from three) and 4 of 5 from the charity stripe. "AJ
did a nice job tonight of playing within herself." praised the Cougar mentor.
"WE all know what a good offensive player she is and she has made solid strides
in all phases of her game. She really battles when she's on the floor. Perhaps
this will be the game that really propels her to the next step and begins to
form some consistency in her game. That will be good for us - and good for
her!"

Sophomore Shannon Dumond was her usual, steady
self and ended with 15 points, 5 assists and 2 steals while freshman post player
Jeannie Closson recorded her 18th double double on the season with 14 points and
10 rebounds. Caitlin Krull just missed a double double with 8 points and
10 rebounds. "Once we got in 'sync', we played pretty well. I think that the
kids knew there wasn't much at stake, but we're trying to teach them that every
time you lace 'em up and cross that line you have to play with effort. I'm
glad we woke up in time." concluded Welch.
