6'1" K. Christian star, Alexis Szekely signs with basketball, too

Mom & Dad look on as Alexis becomes a Cougar.

Alexis Szekely   6'1" post  Kalamazoo Christian HS

"Consistent."  That's the way Szekely's high school coach, Dawn Rehm describes her.  "She scored in double figures for us in 19 out of 22 games."  The Kalamazoo Valley Association first team All Conference player who was also named to the Kalamazoo Gazette Class C/D All Area team and Honorable Mention BCAM list and averaged 14.4 points per game and almost 6 rebounds a game while shooting at a 41% clip from the field.      "Alexis comes to us from a great program which stresses the fundamentals and playing the game the right way."  said Cougar mentor Ron Welch.  "We feel that with her strong work ethic and very good basketball instinct, it won't take her long to make her presence felt."      "She is the second athlete in her family to play two sports in college.  Her sister Leslee was a very good player for us for a couple years early in the new millennium before moving on to Western Michigan where she played softball.  We're certainly looking forward to having her join us after the volleyball team completes their season.  She's very 'long'. with quick hands and quick feet.  She played on the front of the Kalamazoo Christian press and generally created problems. On offense she was always the target of the opposing defenses and still managed to get the job done.  As she continues to gain strength and experience she's going to be a very nice addition to our arsenal at both ends of he floor."
