"Cougar" as we move thru the year |
| Coach Mo Brown moves on and
Coach Shannon Wonnacott returns to the Lady Cougar staff |
|
Some wise person once said that
'the more things change, the more they stay the same'. That
probably applies to the changes in the Lady Cougar coaching staff for
the 2007-08 season.
Maureen Brown has accepted the head varsity
coaching position at Martin high school and thus, with the change of the
high school seasons, be able to continue with the Cougars. This is
a wonderful opportunity for Coach Brown to "spread her wings" and
establish her own program and we feel confident that she will rise to
the occasion and lead the Clippers to new heights. We certainly
wish her well.
I am extremely happy to announce that long
time Cougar coach Shannon Wonnacott will return to the bench this year,
joining Coach Welch and Coach Gillette to re-form the dynamic staff that
was in place before her two year sabbatical to attend to family
business.
"Shannon is, in our mind, one of the premier post
coaches and one of the best coaching minds in Michigan." enthused
Coach Welch. "To say that we are happy to have her come back would
be a huge understatement. She brings excellent people skills and a
terrific love of the game, not to mention a certain "excitability" that
adds to the tremendous blend of personalities on our staff. We
look forward to an exciting year and the development of some very good
young post players under her direction."
Also affected by
the change of high school seasons is Coach Dan Thornton. Having
been part of the Cougar staff for the last eight years, he will remain a
part of the staff although his role will be somewhat diminished because
of his commitment to the Lawton high school program that will be playing
concurrent seasons with the Cougars.
"Dan will be with us early for pre-season work
and then whenever his obligations to Lawton aren't interfered with."
explained Coach Welch. "He's a basketball junkie and I know that
he will be with us as much as he can and I'm OK with that arrangement.
I understand that his first priority has to be his Lawton program.
We'll take him when we can get him!"
So the faces haven't
really changed that much - and that's a good thing! |
