April 29, 2008:
Former Cougar star Kutz commits to Slippery Rock
After spending an extra year at KVCC as a volunteer
assistant coach and rehabbing her surgically repaired shoulder, 5'11"
Kendra Kutz has verbally committed to Slippery Rock University in
Pennsylvania. She will have another two years to play under SRU's 5th year
coach,
Laurel
Heilman. "I fell in love with the campus almost immediately." said
Kutz after she returned from her official visit last weekend. "Then I got
to meet the rest of the team and they were great. I feel very strongly that I
can come into 'The Rock' and be a difference maker for them. I know that
the PSAC is a tough league and it will be a challenge for me, but anyone
who knows me knows I'm up for a challenge."
Longtime Cougar coach
Ron Welch offered his thoughts. "Kendra has worked long and hard for this
and I'm really pleased that she's found the right place for her. I know
that she'll go in there and have a positive impact on that program, just as she
did here. We're proud of her for sticking with it and not losing sight of
her dream because of the adversity."
"We also owe Kendra a debt of gratitude for helping us
out this year. She was a positive influence every day on our young kids
and as soon as she was released to play again, began to practice with us.
Having all those young gals play against her everyday in practice was invaluable
to us in learning how hard they had to play to be successful. We certainly
wish her the best with this next step in her life. I know she will be
successful. She's a very tough minded young lady."
