Background Info
Lena-Marie (Lena) is from Buffalo, New
York. She obtained her
undergraduate degree from the State University of New York College at
Cortland in Physical Education. For several years she taught
physical education in the public schools and directed recreation
programs in upstate New York.
In the mid eighties she went to West Virginia
University (WVU) to teach as a graduate assistant and work on her
Masters degree in Motor Development. A few years later she
returned to West Virginia University to teach and obtain her Doctorate
in Professional Physical Education. While at WVU she taught
activity courses for the general student population and professional
courses for the physical education and education majors. She also
met her husband Ray during this time.
Ray obtained a full-time position at Western
Michigan University. Meanwhile Lena taught part time at
Kellogg Community College and Western Michigan University. In 1999
she came to KVCC as a full-time instructor to teach within the Wellness
and Physical Education Department.
Educational Interests
My interests have expanded over the past twenty
years. I enjoy interacting with the physical education and
elementary education majors. Additionally I like teaching wellness
and fitness classes. My main priority as an educator is to learn
how to help students learn and obtain their goals.
