Role as Member
Within the Discipline of Nursing

The practice of a graduate from an associate degree nursing program is characterized by a commitment to professional growth, continuous learning, and self-development. The nurse with an associate degree practices within the ethical and legal framework of nursing and is responsible for ensuring high standards of nursing practice.

The nurse contributes to the improvement of nursing and nursing practice through participation on committees of the employing institution, attendance at conferences, and membership in nursing organizations.

To be a contributing member within the discipline of nursing and to practice quality nursing care, it is essential that the nurse understand ethical standards and the legal framework for practice; the importance of nursing research; rules and regulations governing the practice of nursing; roles of the professional organizations; political, economic, and societal forces affecting practice; and lines of authority and communication within the work setting.
