Background Info
I grew up in the Detroit area of Michigan. After graduating from
MSU, I migrated to Western Michigan and discovered the joys of the sandy beaches of Lake
Michigan. I began my teaching career in a third grade classroom. After getting
my master's in reading at WMU in Kalamazoo, I taught language arts and reading in a public
school system in Southwestern Michigan. In 1989, I begin teaching at Adrian College
south of the Ann Arbor area. As an educational specialist at Adrian College, I
taught incoming freshman needing instruction in study skills and reading
improvement. In 1994, my family and I moved to the Kalamazoo area. I
have been teaching at Kalamazoo Valley Community College since 1995. I teach a
variety of classes focusing on student improvement in reading, writing, and study
skills. In addition, I am also an instructor in the Achievement Plus program.
Educational Interests
Golfing, gardening, and long walks on the beach are primary
activities in the summer. Winters are more for home-bound activities like reading or
knitting.
